New Yogyakarta International Airport (NYIA) Airport in Kulon Progo will be operated in April 2019. This is an effort to encourage increased capacity and air connectivity from and to Yogyakarta. In the initial stage, Kulon Progo airport will serve international flights from and to Yogyakarta including umrah flights. The Kulon Progo airport development plan has two stages, namely preparation and main stages. Currently, entering the main phase is divided into three stages, the first stage with a capacity of 14 million passengers per year, runways of 3 thousand square meters, and 23 parking stands.
The second stage is with a passenger capacity of 20 million people, a fixed runway, and 31 parking stands. The third stage with a capacity of 25 million passengers per year with a runway to 3600 square meters, and 37 parking stands
In addition to building several buildings for airport operations, the AP 1 also built earthquake and tsunami resistant buildings. The building is named the crisis center building as a Temporary Evacuation Place (TES) for the surrounding community and other buildings for the airport community.
